Hideous Bastard is the debut solo album by Oliver Sim, singer and bassist of the band The xx. This record is the culmination of two years of writing and recording, fueled by his love of queer horror films and his personal experiences surrounding the themes of shame, fear, and masculinity.
Oliver is accompanied by his friend Jamie xx in production, adding his elegant touch, and Jimmy Somerville (Bronski Beat/Communards) lends his voice as a guest. Driven by surreal and airy pop sounds, Hideous Bastard is a bold and ambitious debut album in which Oliver fully explores his voice and his ability to evoke emotion, blending masculinity and tenderness, beauty and baritone voice.
